What companies allow 100% remote work? : gis

I’m specifically looking for companies that would be in the market for GIS developers with Javascript experience, particularly in the Leaflet/D3/Angular/dashboards/data visualization realm.

However, overall it’d be good to get a definitive list of the companies in the entire GIS industry that allow for remote work. It’s a big perk to a lot of people.

Most GIS, Inc. positions are 100% remote.

unfortunately US only 🙁

My concern about that is this.

A company is obviously taking a big risk offering that level of remote work. I can find many independent contractor type positions that would allow this. However, every position that I’ve seen has required at least some time on site or extremely strong, exhibitable skills that would make them reconsider their stance in order to have you as a resource.

I may have to switch to non-GIS JS jobs, I like GIS a lot but it does seem like remote work is a lot less common in this industry.

I work remotely for Mapbox. However, we definitely prefer some people to be in office. If you are interested check out our jobs page.

level 2

I’m very interested, it’s one of my dream jobs, but every time I consider it I eventually end up on this page and it ends with me getting a serious case of impostor syndrome. You guys are all too good!

If you don’t already have this list, chances are you aren’t going to be able to work remotely in this industry. Trust is key when it comes to working remotely, and if you lack connections and references, you’ll have to put in office hours until that time comes. That’s just the reality, and not necessarily a bad thing either.

I have connections, but they’re mostly in government and 100% remote isn’t really a thing here for anyone outside of independent contractors. I do have references though. I’m planning on moving to the middle of nowhere and the job market tends to not be that good in the middle of nowhere. I know enough D3 and Angular though that I don’t have to rely on GIS to get me a remote job, technically I’ve been doing “data visualization” this whole time, the data just happened to make use of Leaflet a lot.

Any Chance to keep this going. I’m definitely Curious about this. I would love to follow my love of arcgis but, unfortunately living in SC they are almost non existent. And I’m always unsure of freelance work and building a clientel.
